Communicating with Parents Through Seesaw

I absolutely love Seesaw. Full disclosure, I am a Seesaw Ambassador. I began using Seesaw roughly five years ago. While Seesaw has so many wonderful features, what I will focus on today though, is how I use it to connect with families.

So often what students do at school parents and caregivers never get to see. And really, that’s a shame. Kids do so many cool things that their families would love to see. By sharing photos of their projects or what they created in morning tub time, families get a glimpse into their child’s life at school.

I also use Seesaw to share my newsletter with my first grade families. They become so used to checking their child’s Seesaw journal that having the newsletter shared through Announcements makes it super convenient for them.

Finally, and most importantly in communicating with families. is the Inbox. This is where you can directly message parents and they can message you. This became so helpful when teaching hybrid during Covid. If we were having problems connecting during Zoom class or Zoom Parent Teacher Conferences, my families knew they could always reach me through Seesaw to help troubleshoot any issues. One family quickly moved from “HI, Mrs. Martin… to Hey, Deb, we’re having a problem with…” I love that through Seesaw my first grade families felt comfortable contacting me about anything they needed. I actually look forward to seeing that notification number pop up as it more often than not, meant a good conversation was in store.

Communicating with parents is vital. They are trusting us with their children each and every day and just want to know what their child does throughout the day. After all, kids aren’t always great at sharing what they did at school. I’ve had parents express how much they enjoy seeing a picture of what their child created during morning tubs, getting to see a video they made, hearing their child read, and more. They have taken the time to let me know how much they appreciate the level of communication they get from me.

If you are new to Seesaw or have never used the website or app, let’s talk. It’s such a great resources. I will be posting more about Seesaw in the weeks to come.
